The Research Process

An overview of the research process, which includes information about search strategies, how to choose and refine topics, kinds of resources, and citing sources

Find detailed & historical information using the catalog

Use the library catalog to find information about books and audiovisual materials, including:

  • print books to check out (circulating) or use inside the library (reference)
  • e-books available anywhere
  • DVDs, including documentaries
  • streaming videos

Accessing materials

E-books and streaming videos can be accessed directly from the catalog. You'll use your MyAACC username and password or Truxal Library card number to log in if you're off campus.

A Truxal Library card is required to borrow print books, but can be obtained when you're ready to check out. Students should just bring a photo ID (like a driver's license) to the circulation desk. If you can't come to the Arnold campus, you can have materials sent to other AACC locations:

If you need access to print materials and cannot come to any campus, you may contact the Distance Learning Librarian for assistance at DLLibrarian@aacc.edu or 410-777-2216.

Materials in the stacks are arranged according to the Library of Congress classification system. Each catalog record contains a call number, which is like an address for the book's location in the library. Materials on similar subjects are shelved together, so it's worthwhile to browse neighboring stacks when you find a helpful book.

This handout explains more about how to use call numbers:

Please ask a staff member if you're having trouble finding items in the stacks!
