Welcome to the LGBTQ+ Rights Library Exhibit!

Truxal Library is proud to present a special exhibit in honor of National Coming Out Day on October 11, 2024, dedicated to supporting LGBTQA+ rights. Titled “LGBTQA+ Rights,” this exhibit showcases the library’s extensive collection of relevant materials alongside numerous other reliable resources. Our goal is to foster an inclusive environment and provide robust support for the LGBTQA+ community at AACC.

Public views

According to the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) research, the U.S. public views about LGBTQ rights has declined in recent years driven largely by party polarization. Read more:

Current facts about LGBTQ+ Americans from Pew Research

  • Some 7% of Americans are lesbian, gay or bisexual.
  • More Americans identify as bisexual than as gay or lesbian.
  • Bisexual adults are far less likely than gay or lesbian adults to be “out” to the important people in their life.
  • Some 1.6% of U.S. adults are transgender or nonbinary – that is, their gender differs from the sex they were assigned at birth.
  • While a relatively small share of U.S. adults are transgender or nonbinary, many Americans say they know someone who is.

What Is LGBTQIA+?

LGBTQ+ Terms and Definitions

LGBTQIA+ is an abbreviation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, and more. These terms are used to describe a person's sexual orientation or gender identity. The terms are the evolving recognition of identity as the society changes and adapts.
