This video, from the "Reaching Teens" series produced by the American Academy of Pediatrics, features Linda A. Hawkins discussing how to advise an adolescent who tells you they are ready to come out.

Presented with Co-Faculty Rick Miller. This session will discuss specific affirmative approaches to working with gay men while understanding the crucial bond they have with their mothers.

Social workers are compelled by their Code of Ethics to uphold the dignity and worth of every person and to challenge injustice where they see its occurrence. In working with LGBTQ persons, Mark Gianino, PhD MSW, encourages social workers to move beyond mere tolerance, and toward an integration of knowledge, skills assessment and intervention as well as advocacy within agencies and beyond.

On a warm spring day, Min-soo meets the tall and broad-shouldered Seok inside a bus. With his baseball cap pulled low over his sharp eyes, Seok evokes memories of a moment of kindness after Min-soo was bullied at school. The spark between the two boys is undeniable, and a charming musical interlude animates the excited beating of Min-Soo's heart.

Many Polish gay men and lesbians remain in the closet for fear of being ostracized from family and friends, and in some cases losing their jobs. The film offers a rare look into the lives of "out" gay people in Poland. Despite cultural homophobia, Polish gays and lesbians are finding more and more friendly clubs to attend, and there is a determined core of activists pushing for gay rights at the national level. Poland's admission to the European Union will continue to have a significant social and economic impact, for better or worse, over the next years.

Gay Life in Russia revealed shocking footage of a man hunted, trapped, then beaten and humiliated by a group of 30 anti-gay activists in Russia. It was just the tip of an iceberg. Across the world, there is a growing move to halt the advance of gay rights by direct persecution and support for anti-homosexual laws. The movement has created some unlikely international allies. Now, the team behind Cold Fear: Gay Life in Russia investigates the groups and individuals coordinating the campaign. The investigation team crosses continents as it tracks the money, political campaigns, and secret meetings to piece together the network. From the anti-gay agenda spreading across Europe from Russia to the extreme homophobia in Africa sponsored by western evangelists and right-wing Christians – this film reveals that far from the hatred originating from rogue extremists, it is an organized movement with a shared source of funding. The trail ends in the United States.

The award-winning documentary "Game Face" tells the parallel story of Fallon Fox, MMAs first transgender pro fighter, and Terrence Clemens, a young, ambitious and talented college basketball player in Oklahoma, who happens to be gay. Both realize that coming out will be necessary for their own sense of integrity and peace of mind, but the lack of a clear roadmap and the unpredictable consequences instill understandable anxiety and caution. Both Fallon and Terrence generously shed light on the struggles they deal with in their quest of finding their true selves. Jason Collins, the first openly gay NBA player, shines as a supportive mentor to Terrence.

Aya, a 32-year-old musician with no boundaries or doubts about her identity as a lesbian, meeets Yaelle, a 29-year-old multimedia artist and new immigrant to Israel from a conservative French family. They create performances together. Their encounter develops into a story of true love, and Yaelle makes the difficult decision to reveal her homosexuality to her parents. Hope turns to despair as Yaelle is forced to sever her relationship with her family who refuse to accept her. The Young couple flies to Toronto to get married, but Yaelle then suffers an acute post-nuptial depression. She emerges from this depression to face her identity regarding herself, her culture, and her family. Home Is You is a brave and intimate documentary portrait. Vibrant, full of humor, real, and touching, Home Is You confronts a humanistic struggle for love, marriage, and acceptance for all.

The film Marry Me However tells the stories of LGBT men and women who, for religious reasons, decided to marry against their own sexual orientation, comply with the Torah laws and be accepted into their families and religious communities. The characters experience a journey of self-acceptance and social activism, as they try to affect a change in their religious environments. The film also follows the women who married and divorced homosexual partners, as well as rabbis and psychologists who seek a solution to an unsolvable conflict.

The story of Transgender Activist, Marsh P. Johnson, who dedicated her life to LGBTQ+ rights.

n Tulsa, Oklahoma, a tiny youth center called OpenArms Youth Project is squeezed in between two of the city’s two thousand churches. The center welcomes young LGBT kids between thirteen and nineteen, who have decided to come out in a very religious society. But the prize for being yourself is high – and you end up becoming a MISFIT. The three main characters: Larissa, Benny and “D” all go to the center, where they find love and support to confront the daily drama they are facing. While the general public opinion towards gays in the USA is slowly changing, this coming-of-age story closely follows the three young protagonists as they struggle to achieve a sense of self in a community that still widely condemns homosexuality.

This study reports rates of sexual assault victimization, and its association with restrictive school restroom/locker room policies, in a transgender and gender non-binary adolescent sample.

A Christmas party at a Southern grandmother’s home turns into an unexpected and tense coming-out story in this heart-warming documentary that spans several generations.

This World explores the divisive debate over whether children should be free to make permanent changes to their gender. Dr Kenneth Zucker once ran the largest public clinic in Toronto for treating children and adolescents with gender dysphoria: an often violent feeling that the body they were born in does not match their true gender. But then Zucker was fired, and his clinic closed down amid comparisons to a religious zealot trying to 'cure' homosexuality.

What Are You? is an intimate portrait of growing up gay, lesbian, bisexual, gender non-conforming, and transgender in the Pacific Northwest. Issues discussed include microaggressions, coming out, the gender binary, discrimination at the workplace, and family dynamics.
