In-Text Citations

An in-text citation is a brief mention of the source of your information or quote. The author (or title if there is no author) and page number are included so your reader or audience can go right to the full bibliographic information in your Reference list.

For more information about formatting in-text citations in APA, visit Purdue OWL's tutorial.

References (Bibliography)

Your list of References gives your readers or audience information that can let them find and read or view your sources. See the AACC Library's Citation Guide and Purdue OWL's APA Citation Tutorial for more information about creating APA references.

Most of the Library's databases have a feature that will generate citations for you. See Using Citations Generators below for details. (It is still your responsibility to make certain the citation is correct!)

What is plagiarism? Why is citing sources important?

The Anne Arundel Community College Academic Integrity Policy defines plagiarism as “the unacknowledged or improperly cited adoption or reproduction of the ideas, words, data or statements of others, including fellow students and internet sources."  Plagiarism carries very serious consequences, so it is very important that you avoid plagiarizing by citing your sources!
